Mainline Fire Protection was formed to complement my work as a Boat Safety Scheme Examiner. During some examinations, it was evident that the owners had not followed the manufacturer's advice in maintaining their extinguishers. This prompted me to try to improve fire safety awareness amongst boaters.

Training   I was trained by Chubb Fire at their extinguisher manufacturing plant in Rhondda, South Wales to service and site portable fire extinguishers to British Standard 5306 parts 3 & 8.

Examination and assessment   The theoretical examination and practical assessment was provided and adjudicated by the Fire Extinguishing Trades Association, an independent third party. I was pleased to achieve 100% in both the written examination and practical assessment.

Services   Mainline Fire Protection offers the following services to boaters and inland waterways businesses:
  • Fire Protection advice and information.
  • Fire Training, including selection and use of portable fire extinguishers.
  • Portable Fire Extinguisher siting surveys.
  • Basic and Extended Servicing of all makes of portable fire extinguishers to British Standards.
  • Provision of fire extinguishers, fire blankets, smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms and fire & emergency signs.
  • As a matter of course I include the annual service of on-board fire extinguishers during Boat Safety Examinations, without charge.

Boat Safety Scheme The BSS has introduced a "Fire Advice Portal" on their website.  Its purpose is to provide advice and best practice for preventing boat fires and  to help you make a plan should fire break out on your boat. To visit the portal, click here.

Quotes for products and services   I'm happy to provide quotes for a complete range of equipment and services such as:

  • A single smoke alarm by mail order.
  • The extended servicing of a marina's entire supply of fire extinguishers.
  • Providing a chandlery with all their fire protection products for resale.

Principal Supplier   Mainline Fire Protection has, as a principal supplier, the Midlands based, family firm JacToneClick on the link to see the comprehensive range of products manufactured by JacTone for the fire protection industry and available through our company.

Information and advice   I'm always prepared to provide fire protection information and advice, particularly where it is useful to boat owners, marinas, moorings, dry docks and boat clubs. I see this as an integral part of fire protection and boat safety and it is always provided, without charge, in a friendly and professional manner.

Customers' comments:

I email you in my capacity as a manager for Sherborne Wharf and as a private customer. Firstly, on behalf of Sherborne Wharf I would like to thank you for your involvement in our business, both as a Boat Safety Scheme Examiner and servicing all of our fire equipment. We have found you to be most efficient in the way that you handle our requirements in all aspects.

Secondly, as a private customer I found that when you examined my boat to be most thorough and helpful leaving ' no stone unturned' having identified certain problems, then went on to suggest the most expedient way of resolving them, again most efficient and helpful.

I have no problem in recommending your services to anyone and will gladly do so. I wish you every success in your business in the future.

Best wishes, J. H., Sherborne Wharf.
